The British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) has made a significant announcement recently, revealing that it has joined the United Lotteries for Integrity in Sports (ULIS). This move makes BCLC the third Canadian entity to become a member of ULIS, following in the footsteps of Loto Québec and Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation.
It is worth mentioning that ULIS is a mutualized monitoring system for state lotteries that focuses on sports betting integrity. Its primary goal is to detect and analyze suspicious betting activities that could potentially harm the integrity of a sports competition. By sharing sports betting information, ULIS members work together to ensure global sports integrity. The organization is committed to working closely with regulators, law enforcement authorities, and sports organizations to achieve its objectives.
Ludovico Calvi, the President of ULIS, expressed his delight at welcoming BCLC as the third Canadian lottery member. Calvi added that the corporation’s dedication to environmental, social, and governance issues, responsible gambling, and community outreach aligns with ULIS’s values. The ULIS team is excited to work with BCLC to promote integrity in sports.
The news of BCLC joining ULIS came shortly after the Lithuanian Gaming Control Authority joined the organization’s vast network of partners. Furthermore, ULIS underwent a rebranding in October 2022, changing its name from the Global Lottery Monitoring System to the United Lotteries for Integrity in Sports. The rebranding reflected the organization’s new strategy and focus on providing additional services to its partners beyond monitoring. A survey conducted by the members of the organization showed that GLMS was no longer an accurate representation of its services, which prompted the name change.
