Isabelle Jean, the Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer of Lottery Games for the Crown corporation confirmed that this week’s jackpot is the largest since 2015. In fact, it’s the first time that the Gold Ball jackpot has reached this amount since the new version of Lotto 6/49 was introduced in September 2022.
In addition to the Gold Ball Draw, which offers a chance to win up to CA$ 68 million, there’s also the Classic draw. This draw involves six numbers between 1 and 49 and offers a CA$ 5 million Classic Jackpot along with several other prizes.
Since the new version of Lotto 6/49 was launched, Canadians have already won some fantastic prizes. Jean-Marc Poirier from Quebec won the first-ever Gold Ball jackpot of CA$ 36 million in October 2022, while 18-year-old Juliette Lamour from Ontario became the youngest player to win a CA$ 48 million prize in February 2023.
Ms. Lamour’s story is particularly remarkable because she bought her winning ticket on her 18th birthday at the suggestion of her grandfather. She plans to use some of her winnings to pursue her dream of becoming a doctor, while the rest will be invested wisely.
